Volunteering for RiverArtsFest

We are looking for volunteers interested in assisting with the production of RiverArtsFest 2014. If you are looking to Be a PART of the ARTS then this opportunity is for you. We have many opportunities to participate in the festival. You can sign up using our on-line volunteer register. Please be sure to indicate your shift preference and the area where you would like volunteer. We will do our best to place you in the area you request, but we reserve the right to assign you where needed.

Before the start of the festival, we will email you back a confirmation along with a volunteer release. Please bring that release with you when you come to volunteer check in. You will be notified where to report as we get closer to festival time.

As a volunteer you agree to provide your sevices without charge. We can not pay, but we will be happy to give you a T-shirt which we will ask you to wear during the festival.  Be sure to include your size preference so we can right size our T-shirt order.

2014 RiverArtsFest Volunteer Opportunities October 24, 25 and 26

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the RiverArtsFest. It takes over 350 volunteers and it would not happen without your help!

Volunteer Opportunities for the 2014 RiverArtsFest held October 24, 25 & 26 on Historic South Main Street in Downtown Memphis include the following:

Ticket Booth Sales (Saturday thru Sunday) for festival admissions, food and beverages

There will be a lead person for each shift and they will be responsible in making sure all are trained in duties, money transitioned to finance committee.

Check In for Artist Market (Friday) shifts: 7:30am-1p & 1p-6p

  • Check in: Register artists, present packets, field questions and direct them to the load in area. Radio Communication to booth location volunteers…
  • Booth Location Assistance: Assist in managing artist with load in process within the festival area, direct to their booth location, monitor set-up, direct to parking. Radio communication to check in…

    Opening Night RAF Preview Party (Friday) shift 5:30 to 9pm.  Need 12 to 15 ppl

    • Sell Tickets, VIP Check in, field questions, and monitor area, help with cleanup during the event and after…

    Logistics Support/Setup (Friday thru Sunday) various shifts per day

    • Command Central Logistics – monitor golf cart and radio log, communication liaison for logistic and volunteer coordinators. Check radio communication as required, field questions… Need 1 to 2 per Shift
    • Setup – Help with road blocks, beer tent table and cooler setup/stocking, sign hanging, pop up tent setup, tables and chairs for hospitality… Requires some moderate lifting. Most activities will be done Friday Oct 24th. Need 4 to 5 ppl
    • Teardown – Breakdown tables, chairs, clear beer tents of garbage, stage wine and beer for pickup, help transport tables, chairs to Command Central for staging. Requires lifting. This primarily a Sunday pm activity and will be for beer tents and hospitality areas. Shift 5pm to 8:30pm Sunday October 26th. Need 8 to 10 ppl

    Artist Market Support (Friday thru Sunday) various shifts per day. Need 15 per shift

    • Booth Sitters /Floaters – Great opportunity to meet artists, give them a break, field questions, get them a snack or a drink, coordinate transportation for large sale items, communicate information regarding the festival as needed
    • Check in Booth Monitor – liaison for Artist Market Chairpersons. Radio control to Chairpersons for any emergencies. Artist Market Information letter will be provided for further details.
    • Information Booth/ Membership Booth/ Merchandise Sales 
(Saturday and Sunday) various shifts per day. Need 3 to 4 per Shift
    • Greeter - Greet the public, help with questions regarding Festival and Memphis, sell memberships. We will have listing of artists with layout plus music schedule.
    • Merchandise Sales – Selling posters, t-shirts and caps and recording quantity sold (this could be at various locations)

    Artist in Motion (Saturday and Sunday) various shifts per day. Need 4 per shift

    • Setup tables, assists artist, crowd control, load and unload artist’s supplies, run messages, get snacks, drinks…

    Beer and Wine Sales (Friday thru Sunday) various shifts per day

    • Sell tickets, check id’s, serve beer, wine and water. Must be 21 or older. Radio communication for restocking. There will be a lead person for each shift and they will be responsible in making sure all are trained in duties, money is transitioned to finance committee, and area is either staged for the next day or ready for teardown on Sunday.
    • There will be 4 Beverage Tents – need 6 ppl per tent (24 ppl per shift)
    • Beer Affidavit is required for Beer sales. If you need to get one go to: City of Memphis Permits Office 2714 Union Ave Ext Suite 200 (2nd Floor) Behind the Mexican restaurant on Poplar 901-636-6711. There is a $10 charge (CASH ONLY). RAF will reimburse or you can make a tax deductible donation.
    • Volunteers for Beer and Wine sales must be over 21 yrs of age with valid ID. The City requires persons responsible for the sale of alcoholic beverages meet additional requirements and hold a valid permit. Additional details will be given upon verification and approval of your application.

    Entertainment (Saturday and Sunday) various shifts per day Need 2 per shift

    • Help with setup of stages on Friday (Shift to be confirmed) Moderate lifting may be required
    • Saturday and Sunday: Direct musicians to parking, light traffic control while moving in equipment, radio communication

    Traffic Control (Friday thru Sunday) various shifts per day. Need 2 to 4 per shift

    • Guide traffic to the event, parking and drop off locations. Provide access to blocked areas for residents or businesses behind the traffic barriers.
    • Transport patrons and artists to and from remote lots. A valid driver’s license is required
      Parking Need 2 to 4 per shift
    • Control access to marked lots. Setup barriers and signage at different lots, collect money, check parking passes for artists and musicians, direct visitors to free parking locations.
    • Break down and returning barriers and signage to command central at the end of the day.
      Volunteer Hospitality and Check in (Saturday and Sunday) various shifts per day. Need 1 per shift
    • Assist volunteer chair with check in, T shirt selection, provide directions to volunteer’s assignment; maintain hospitality area with snacks, drinks…

    Where we need your help

    Artist Market Ambassador

    Volunteers in this area provide assistance as needed to the artists participating in the Artist Market. Duties may include obtaining refreshments for artists, watching over artist’s booths during breaks, and other assorted errands.

    Logistical support

    Providing assistance to festival staff in various capacities during the event. Duties may include running supplies to artists or volunteers in the Artist Market, entertainment areas, and food vendors.  Other tasks and errands between festival operations.

    Information Booth

    Volunteers in this area work the various information booths that are located throughout the festival. Duties include assisting patrons with questions regarding the location of facilities, festival information, and general Information about the city for out of town visitors.

    Artist Hospitality

    Volunteers in this area are responsible for assisting artists in the hospitality area, an indoor venue where artists can take a break and refresh themselves as needed.  Duties include general cleaning and maintenance of the area to keep it clean, keeping refreshments stocked as needed, and general policing to permit only artists and festival staff.  (Security is also provided to assist in this capacity)

    Beer and Wine Sales*

    Volunteers in this area assist in the selling of beer and wine at the various stations which are located throughout the festival grounds.

    Volunteers in this area will be located at several of our festival merchandise booths and will assist in the sale of RiverArtsFest merchandise.  Duties include cashiering and stocking/restocking of merchandise items as needed.

    Set up Teardown

    Volunteers in this area help assist the artists setup their booths at the beginning of the event and dismantle them at the conclusion.  This opportunity involves some physical labor such as carrying items of various sizes and weights to and from the artist’s vehicle.

    Entertainment

    Volunteers in this area provide assistance to the entertainment coordinators of the event.  Duties include assisting with the setup and transport of entertainment equipment, and any assistance to the artists as needed during the event.
